Barefoot in Bouddi

Afternoon walk to Bullimah beach to talk to the bottlebrush.
Some of these trees have seen a thing or two. They hold the best views of my world.

Actually some of these rocks have seen a thing or two. Bombi and Mourawaring Moors are
ancient wind blown sand dunes, ancient meaning 212-289 million years ago.

Leisegang rings. And I once thought I was complex.
Some people actually believe in self organizational phenomena.

Winter Solstice

The winter solstice occurs exactly when the axial tilt of planet earth is farthest away from its star, the sun. It means tomorrow will be the shortest day and the longest night, and the suns position in the sky will be at its lowest. The word 'solstice' is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the sun stands still as it's apparent position in the sky reaches its northernmost or southernmost extremes. So get ready for it, tomorrow marks the winter solstice for this year.

While I'm all for beanies, warming toes on fire barrels, with fingers around a mug of mulled wine, I must say that tomorrow night, I am going to stand still for a moment, with a smile on my face knowing that the day after, the sun begins rising slightly earlier each morning and setting slightly later each evening. yeew.

Endurance

Catalina Challenge with Jodie and Jen for Japan from Soul Surf Media on Vimeo.

I'd like to be better at endurance. These are gutsy inspiring girls paddling with a purpose. Catalina Crossing is a stretch of open water between the mainland of SoCal and Catalina Island. Tom Blake impressively and controversly won a paddleboat race over 26 miles (45kms) of this crossing in 1932. Apparently Blake did not really consider it a race as much as a test of endurance and stamina. He paddled the 26 mile crossing in 5 hours and 53 minutes. Jodie and Jen completed 40 miles of the crossing on SUP in 9 hours and 20 minutes.

Tom Blake would be proud of you gals.

Cape Three Points Reminiscing

Next weekend marks the annual 5 Lands Walk. So in the spirit of celebrating these lands, here is the last of the old school treasures series. Both these pics are taken from North Avoca looking south to Cape Three Points. Same road in. Electricity advancements. More houses on the hillside.

Yesterday afternoon I was looking down at a windy wet Cape Three Points from North Avoca SLSC, and I thought of these images, and how I hope plomer road (and other such treasures) never become one of these pics for our kids, or their kids. When the Darkinjung camped out at Littles or Tallow or Putty did they dream of one day having instant FB on their 3G iPhone4?

A generation goes, and a generation comes,
but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises, and the sun goes down,
and hastens to the place where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
and goes around to the north;
around and around goes the wind,
and on its circuits the wind returns.
All streams run to the sea,
but the sea is not full;
to the place where the streams flow,
there they flow again.
All things are full of weariness;
a man cannot utter it;
the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing.
What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.
